Glidance - Accessible Design for Navigation
Context
Between August and December 2024, I worked on a documentary and design project for Glidance, a company focused on creating innovative accessibility tools for blind and low-vision individuals. This project was a collaboration with the University of North Texas’ Communication Design Class of 2025 to improve Glide’s unboxing experience and digital interface, ensuring accessibility at every stage.

Overview
The challenge: Redesigning Glide’s packaging and onboarding experience for accessibility.
The process: Research, user testing, and iterative design methods.
The solution: A reimagined unboxing experience and digital interface that prioritizes usability and independence.
Why was this project needed?
Glidance’s mission is to empower blind and low-vision individuals with a navigation tool that is intuitive, reliable, and empowering.

Key Challenges:
Unboxing Experience:
Many accessibility products have complex, frustrating packaging that isn’t designed for blind users.
The goal was to create an intuitive, tactile, and frustration-free unboxing experience.
Digital Interface & User Journey:
The onboarding process for assistive technology is often confusing due to poorly designed user interfaces.
The challenge was to streamline the experience and make it accessible for both high-tech and low-tech users.
Target Audience Needs:
Blind and low-vision individuals often have different levels of familiarity with technology.
Designing for a range of users meant incorporating audio, tactile elements, and clear feedback mechanisms.
